Street Throws a Party by Mike Edmonds, Luke Dennehy & Chloe Adams Herald Sun, Melbourne, Australia, 30th June 2005
The cast and crew of Neighbours had a party to celebrate its 20th year
It's hard to believe Neighbours has turned 20. The show is one of Australia's best exports - shown in more than 60 countries. Cast and production crew celebrated the milestone with a party at the Long Room in Georges, Collins St, on Tuesday night.
New faces
Keep an eye on the new and younger actors in Ramsay Street. There are a few faces that look like having a good future. Remember the names Pippa Black, Caitlin Stacey and Damien Bodie who have all recently started on the show.
Overlooked
It was disappointing to see Neighbours casting guru Jan Russ not thanked in the night's congratulatory speeches. The Eye believes she and some other long-term employees were a little upset at not being mentioned, and so they should be. Without Russ, it's highly likely that stars such as Kylie Minogue, Delta Goodrem, Natalie Imbruglia and Daniel MacPherson wouldn't be where they are today. So, on behalf of all of us, thank you, Jan. And it would have been good to see some of those older castmates at the party.
Dan's the man
Australian Idol finalist Dan O'Conner is settling into his role on Neighbours and some of the crew are tipping he could be a favourite to win next year's best new talent Logie. O'Conner still hopes to sing again but is more than happy to give acting a red-hot go. He might yet have a career that will last longer than any of the Australian Idol finalists.
