Neighbours Turns 20! by Claire Isaac

OK!, Australia, July 2005

Take a look back at the leg warmers, mullets and frizzy perms of your old favourites

The celebrations haven't stopped for the cast and crew of Neighbours, which turned 20 this year. But now it's time for the viewers to celebrate - starting July 25, there's a whole week of episodes featuring special return visits from former cast members.

After a nine-year absence, Annalise Hartman, played by Kimberley Davies, returns to Ramsay Street. Kimberley reveals that Annalise is 'the tie-in character for all the other people coming back'. Now a filmmaker, Annalise is back to make a documentary about her old stomping ground. After interviewing the street's current residents, she arranges a screening of her work for them and reveals a fabulous surprise... Not only have the street's present-day favourites been caught on film, so have a whole host of former Ramsay Street dwellers, who recall fond memories of their time in the street and reveal what they've been doing since they left.

Kimberley says returning to Neighbours was an easy choice to make because, 'It was a great time in my life and I thought it would be fun to revisit. The thing that sticks out for me is how much we used to laugh!'

Other cast members making a comeback include Terence Donovan (Doug Willis), Melissa Bell (Lucy Robinson), Ian Rawlings (Phil Martin) and Mark Little (Joe Mangel), who's been performing in theatre in the UK. Mark says the character of Joe was the main reason he's signed on for another year in Erinsborough. 'He sucks me right in! He's so much fun. He's what I call the "avant gardner"... and he's come back nice and strong!' If you're wondering whether he and Melanie are still together, Mark says that all will be revealed during the anniversary special, adding that Joe's relationship doesn't seem to have gone too well, because he ends up sleeping on Harold's couch!

Keep your eyes peeled also for cameos by other old hands like Kym Valentine (Libby), Delta Goodrem (Nina), Craig McLachlan (Henry), Jesse Spencer (Billy Kennedy) and Holly Valance (Flick Scully).
